Often times on this site you will read about motivation and having the right mindset to play well.  This article sheds some light on how to find that motivation in order to succeed in the game of basketball.  All the drills and practice will develop your skills but without a winning mindset, it’s almost a waste of time.  If you really watch the great players, no matter if it’s middle school, high school, college or even the NBA; they possess one thing…motivation to succeed.  Often times this looks like “swag” because these players have found their basketball motivation.

5 Simple but Important Tips to Become Better in the Offseason

Now that the “official” basketball season is behind us, it is time to look ahead to the ’12-’13 basketball season.  If you are like 100% of the basketball players out there then you have things that you need to work on to become a better player; and it starts in the off-season.  I cannot stress how important it is to develop your basketball skills in the off-season.  We, as players, are groomed in the spring/summer and early fall.  See how much time there is outside of the regular season?  Almost 7 entire months!

I’ve worked with many middle school, high school and college players in the off-season and I can assure you that the following tips will help you immensely next season.  Of course, like all of my suggestions on this site, you may need to tweak the advice for you.

How to Play Aggressive Defense Without Fouling

Have you ever heard your coach or the opponent’s coach yell, “Stay aggressive on D!”  Well, defense is best played aggressive but to a point.  Aggressive defense doesn’t mean crowd the ballhandler and hope that you don’t get a foul called on you.  Aggressive defense that the coach is talking (or yelling) about is making calculated, proactive defense moves.  For example, playing aggressive D means sprinting as the ball is being passed to another offensive teammate.

Some of the new improvements that we are working on include:

  • Guides: We have provided a guides page, here, in order to provide free content in an effective way.  We feel that this information is very important to all basketball players of every age and gender.   We will continue to publish these quick and easy to read guides to help you or your child out.
  • Newsletter:   We have gotten many requests for an email newsletter.  We have finally executed your requests and setup a newsletter for the community.  Don’t worry we won’t spam you everyday with products.  Instead, we will send you periodic emails from time to time with helpful tips.
  • New Drills & Workouts: We haven’t updated our drills since last year.  Yes, we feel guilty about this.  We will be rolling out new and improved basketball drills from this day forward.  We are excited to hear the response from you guys.  If you have a basketball drill that is not on this site feel free to contact us here.

As a basketball player, you want to have all around skills to help your team win. To be a great player you will need to know how to play both sides of the ball. Too many players only focus on shooting, there is much more to the game than this. I’ve compiled a list of 50 quick tips for you to keep in mind next time you step on the basketball court.

1. It’s a 5 on 5 game, so use your teammates.

2. Remember B.E.E.F when shooting the basketball.

3. Remember to pack jersey, shorts, socks and sneakers at the least.  This is assuming you are already wearing underwear.
