Top 5 Point Guards in the NBA

Check out BDO’s top 5 point guards…

1.  Rajon Rondo (Celtics)

Just last night against the Cavs, Rondo had 29 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists in a win over Cleveland.  If those stats doesn’t represent an elite point guard than I don’t know what qualifies anymore.  Coming out of Kentucky only people who followed the NCAA’s knew who this was.  Rondo was chosen at pick # 21 by the Suns and shortly traded to the C’s.  There he earned himself a championship, an all-star nod, and many early accolades.  Although he’s still early in his career, Rondo hasn’t failed to impress, he continually runs the show and puts Garnett, Peirce and Allen in their place.

2. Steve Nash (Suns):

Canadian born, Steve Nash, comes in at #2 on my list of greatest point guards currently playing in the NBA.  He has a proven track record and doesn’t seem to be slowing down.  The 2 time MVP has made his mark as one of the best all-time.  In this year’s (2010) playoffs, they are making noise and have put themselves in a good place to win the championship.  This would be Nash’s first title in his 14 year career.

3. Chris Paul (Hornets):

CP3 is one of the best young guns in the league.  He has such a great impact on every game and every minute he’s out there.  He has made the New Orleans franchise a contender again.  Paul is an all-around great point guard that sees the whole court, front and back.  When all said and done I strongly believe Chris Paul will be considered one of the top 10 pg’s of all time.

4. Deron Williams (Jazz):

Currently playing for the Jazz, an alum of Illinois, Williams is a point guard who can shoot to win a ball game.  His three pointer is deadly, his drive game is bananas, his vision is that of an eagle and has the knowledge of a seasoned vet.  Jazz have become one of the best in the west again because of Williams all-star play.  He will continue to lead the Jazz with his great playmaking abilities each year.

5. Derrick Rose (Bulls):

His pure athletic ability puts Rose on this list.  Coming out of Memphis, much was expected from him and he lived up to the hype.  He found his home again in Chicago where he has already become an allstar player.  The 6’3″ pg can dunk over a 7′ center, drive past a 6′ point guard, get a jump shot up over a 6’7″ guard.  There’s not much he can’t do in the league and he’s only 21!
